Portraits de Cabo Verde 2015
Last summer I traveled around the islands of Cape Verde for five weeks. During this trip I photographed a lot of people and landscapes. This all combined makes my new photo serie “Portraits de Cabo Verde”. I hope this photo serie will give you a good inside look of the beautiful country, people and culture.

Santo Antão
One of the roughest but greenest island I traveled. The views here are amazing. No big citys only small villages and a lot of nature. Also no airport so you have to travel by boat, 1 hour from Sao Vicent. I really recommend you going here and explore!

Santiago
Santiago is the largest island of the Cape Verde island and has the capital Praia. My focus on this island was more for the workers in the countryside of the island and there way of doing things. They showed me the progress of the local beverage Grogue, which is made from sugarcane. And we had to taste it too, see the behind the scenes video.

Sao Vicente
For me this island was the most focused on tourisme, if you compare it to the other ones I traveled. There is a beautiful boulevard, white beach and a blue sea. I heard that the island is know for partying. On the boulevard you have a lot of nice restaurants and crowded bars. My focus on this island was more for the street sellers around the corner from the boulevard. They sold everything, from fruit for the locals to magnets for tourist.

Fogo
The only Cape Verde island with an active volcano. Earlier this year he showed his last activities. I didn’t know what to expect but it had a big impact on me. The stoned lava stood 3 meters high and between the lava you saw some roof tops from the village that got destroyed. Luckily there were no victims, but the thoughts that everyone who lived there had to escape and leave their home and work, really got me.
